Ok, I am here to adress the spreading rumor that Vincent has a "robotic arm". Many people have argued that due to the design, and the fact that he never takes it off (Why would someone never take off something removable, even when they rest).
Here are the facts as I see them. The first and foremost being, when on earth did Vincent loose this arm and why? He had it when he was assigned to watch over the Jenova Project, had it still when he was shot by Hojo. The details of the experiments may be a little foggy, but no where does it mention anything of amputation, not even implied. So let us assume he had it when he awoke(As I am sure he did). What could have happened during the short time he was awake and when he entered the coffin could he have lost an arm, then made his way to someone that would craft another one, Shin-Ra? I think not. When he was found by Cloud years later he had the claws. Second, If the arm with the claw is indeed a "robotic" one, then the leg and foot with the golden plate must also be, so not only did some wild event happen that he lost he arm, but also the leg on the same side. Another thing, in Clouds appearence in Kingdom Hearts, it is stated that his costum was modeled after Vincents, The claws especially, stating that he did so because Cloud and Vincent shared the same darkness and guilt over failing to protect someone. So Unless Cloud has also lost an arm, then Vincents must just be an armour plate for Clouds to be remodeled after. Also an interesting note that in greek mythology( which Final Fantasy draws a lot of idea from mythologies) the monsters are known for brass claws, such as the gorgon with golden claws and wings, which would match nicely with Vincent's monster. And last but not least a scene is featured in DoC with a close up of Vincents lower arm and hand, and guess what? There are no backs to the Golden Gauntlet for the fingers, and bits of leather are shown in the crevices. This implies that there is a normal hand under the claws, presumably attached to an equally normal arm.
